The Five Worst States for Driving

You may have seen our blog post on the best states for driving. While some states boast excellent statistics for road safety, other states aren’t so accomplished. To offset our list on the best states for driving, we’ve compiled another for the country’s worst. For the most part, we rely heavily on various studies, including those conducted by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), but that doesn’t wholly contribute to why these states ended up in their respective slots on this list.

1. Louisiana: There’s no way around it, Louisiana: you’re the country’s worst place to drive. From extremely high accident ratings to poor driving conditions, Louisiana constantly tops almost every single list of the worst states for driving. Word of warning: this is not the best state to go for joyrides. Stay safe and alert.

2. South Carolina: When it comes strictly to facts and figures, South Carolina has nowhere else to go but right into our number two slot. With one of the absolute highest drunk driving records in the country, it’s safe to say that fearing the South Carolina highways is acceptable.

3Florida: There’s a lot to be said about the more relaxed Florida lifestyle. However, when it comes to driving, this one takes number three on our list. With a combination of generous high speed limits and high crash ratings (perhaps they’re linked?), Florida is not the best place for a leisurely Sunday drive.

4. Mississippi: The number of fatalities and Failure to Obey violations is what brought Mississippi into the number four slot on our list of the worst states for driving.

5. Texas: We all know about that Texas spirit. But sometimes spirit can get a little hairy. According to MADD research, this one is barely behind South Carolina in DUI arrests. Follow that up with an impressive number of tickets handed out each year, and this state takes the final slot in this forsaken list.
