The New 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

The 2014 GMC Sierra has several new features while maintaining a feel similar to that of the dependable trucks that GMC has been putting out for decades. This year’s model is a descendant of the old 1960’s Wideside or Fenderside GMC pickup trucks, which were based on the Chevrolet C/K pickup trucks. While the new GMC Sierra shares many traits with its brother, the Chevrolet Silverado, it has a few features that set it apart. This truck will attract plenty of attention from GMC and Chevy fans, and it might impress a few pickup truck drivers that favor other truck manufacturers.

Engine

For 2014, GMC wanted to increase power and torque, as well as fuel efficiency. There will be three different EcoTec3 engine options for the Sierra 1500. There is a 4.3L V-6, a 5.3L V-8, and a 6.2L V-8. Each engine will switch to running on four cylinders when the vehicle is driving with a light load. This means that all the new engines are more fuel efficient. Each engine will also feature direct fuel injection and variable valve timing which will also help with fuel efficiency. The 2014 GMC Sierra offers the best V-8 fuel economy in the industry. The 5.3 L V-8 is designed for fuel efficiency, whereas the 6.2L V-8 is designed to be a more powerful engine.

Brakes

The 2014 GMC Sierra will have brakes that feature ferritic nitrocarburizing technology, which is a GM patented process that makes rotors harder and stronger. Also, because these brakes do not corrode as easily, they can potentially last longer.

Exterior

The new Sierra is about the same size as it was before, but it looks sleeker and more aerodynamic. This was intentionally done to improve fuel economy, reduce wind noise, and give the Sierra a more appealing look. GMC made triple sealed doors so that the door gaps are even more out of the wind, which makes for less road noise inside the vehicle. New for 2014 are the Sierra’s rear doors, which are front hinged with outside pull door handles. This allows passengers to enter and exit the vehicle while the front doors stay closed.

Also, there are two different options for bed lengths. There is the 5’9” size, and new for the Crew Cab trucks, a 6’6”. Regular cab Sierras will continue to have a 6’6” or an 8’ truck bed.

Interior

The interior of the new Sierra is bigger and better. In addition to being a quieter truck, the Sierra also has more room for storage. The Sierra has a large center console that can carry file folders, a laptop, and more. The doors have plenty of space to store beverages and other items, and there is locking under-seat storage for Sierra SLE models with bench seating. Also, the glove box has been enlarged.

The new Sierra is definitely a modern truck. It has several USB ports, a 110-volt plug, and either a 4.2” or an 8” color information screen with available IntelliLink. Also, there is an available forward collision alert system, a lane departure warning, and front park assist.
