Racetracks around Indianapolis

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home to the Indy 500, has been an icon of motorsports excellence since 1909. Although the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is by far the most famous racetrack in Indianapolis, there are several other quality racetracks in the area.

Track of Champions

The Track of Champions at the Indiana State Fairgrounds is a one-mile flat dirt track with a seating capacity of almost 14,000. The track hosts many different events, but it is best known for the Hoosier 100 race that takes place the night before the Indy 500.

Mini-Indy Speedway

Also located at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, the Mini-Indy Speedway is a concrete track built similarly to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, only smaller. The track has a wide banking of seven degrees on the straights and nine degrees in the corners. The Mini-Indy Speedway hosts several Quarter Midget races throughout the year and is home to the Central Indiana Quarter Midget Association.

The Lucas Oil Raceway is comprised of a quarter-mile asphalt drag strip, a .686 mile asphalt oval, and a 2.5 mile asphalt road course. Located on the west side of Indianapolis, the Lucas Oil Raceway hosts several different types of events, with around 100 different dates of racing. The raceway is home to the most prestigious drag race in the world, NHRA U.S. Nationals, held annually on Labor Day weekend.

Mid-America SpeedwayDirt Track at Mid America

The Mid-America Speedway is an oval dirt motorcycle track less than a quarter mile long designed for speedway motorcycles. Speedway motorcycles are lightweight bikes with large motors capable of traveling from 0 to 60 mph in less than three seconds.  While the racetrack is designed specifically for speedway motorcycles, the Mid-America Speedway does host other events. The Speedway is located on the southeast side of Indianapolis at the Marion County Fairgrounds.
