The Top Five Best States for Driving

The United States is a large country with a lot of people. A lot of people driving cars, that is. With so many people on the road, it’s easy to stack up the figures and draw conclusions about which states are the best and worst for driving. In this first post, we talk about the country’s top five best states for driving.

1. Alaska: It’s big. It’s wide. And it’s less traveled than any other state. With long stretches of road and fewer speed limit restrictions, Alaska tops our list of best states to drive in. Did we mention the breathtaking scenery to drive through?

2. Vermont: This one tops Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s (MADD) list of the top ten safest states for driving. When it comes to keeping up with safety, this one has to follow closely behind Alaska.

3. Utah: Popping up on most top ten lists for safety and driving conditions, Utah graces our top five list at number three. It’s mainly the combination of safe highways, high speed limits, and less traffic patrolling that make this one of the best. The flat roads make for easy, straightforward travel.

4. California: Are you surprised by this one? Well, according to a U.S. News article, this is the top state for teen drivers. The article chose California as the top state (because Washington, D.C., is a district and not a state) off of a rubric based on number of teen drivers, number of teen deaths, percent of teen drivers involved in alcohol or drug induced accidents, teen license laws, safety belt laws, and much more. This was enough to sway our vote to putting it at number four on our list.

5. New Hampshire: Along with many of these other top five, New Hampshire is one of the safest in the country. Unlike most of the others on this list, New Hampshire is small. More stop-and-go action keeps its drivers focused and alert, resulting in a lower crash rate than some other states.

Stay tuned for the next post on the top five worst states for driving!
