If you’re anything like me, you like to save a few dollars at the gas pump. Especially if you have a family. Luckily, hybrid vehicles boast great gas mileage, and they’re becoming more ubiquitous, so you can save plenty of money at the pump. The only problem with hybrids is that, until recently, they were mostly all very small vehicles, and small vehicles aren’t always the family-friendliest. But as hybrids grow in popularity, so do their diversity and size. Looking for a new family car? Here are a few that you should consider.
Whether or not you’re going to buy a new or used hybrid vehicle, the Ford Fusion Hybrid is one of the best out there. This sedan has plenty of room for a family, and the 2014 model gets an EPA-estimated 47 MPG. The Ford Fusion Hybrid has been around for a few years already, and it keeps getting better and better with every new model.
Although the Chevy Malibu Hybrid might not be the most advanced hybrid on the market, this sedan is great for families. It has a low MSRP and a high 36 MPG. The MPG is not nearly as good as the Ford Fusion, but the Malibu offers other features and traits that might sway some buyers. Besides that, the fact that the price tag is considerably lower than the Ford’s helps its case as well.
Need something a little bigger than a sedan? Check out the Chevy Tahoe Hybrid. The Tahoe Hybrid has a V8 gas engine and two electric motors that work together to get the full-sized SUV the best possible mileage (20 city 23 highway), which is better than other hybrids of comparable size. The Tahoe’s interior is even nicer than the mileage making the ride both economical and enjoyable.
If the Tahoe is just too big a vehicle for you, you might want to consider the Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid. This midsized SUV is a great choice for a family that isn’t looking for a sedan, but also doesn’t need anything Tahoe-sized. With an estimated 25 city 28 highway MPG, the Pathfinder can take you and your family wherever you want to go for a low price.
